Ride a Bicycle
Cycle for Survival’s high-energy indoor team cycling events require no experience — you can pedal hard or hardly pedal! By being a part of this empowering and fun day, you are making true progress possible in the fight to beat rare cancers.
You can choose to become a team captain and start a team — or register as a member of an existing team that you've been invited to join. Teams have 4-8 riders per bike and a bike is reserved for 4 hours. You can divide up pedaling time however you'd like.
Every team needs a strong captain to lead the charge. Simply register your team online by selecting START A TEAM above, and then recruit friends, family, and colleagues to join you.
Team members will register individually by using the team password provided to them by the team captain, who is also responsible for assigning specific event day ride times.
Register to ride a bicycle as a member of an existing team that you’ve been invited to join. If someone you know has started a Cycle for Survival team, ask him or her for the team password so you can register.

Another option if you would like to ride a bicycle is to go "Extreme" and be a team on your own. This means you would ride the entire four-hour shift on your own bike. Whichever option you choose, spread the word and ask friends, family, and colleagues to ride too!
The fundraising goal per bike is $1,000. If you are part of a team of 8 people,
then each person is encouraged to raise $125.
You can raise money using your team's fundraising page. It’s easier than you think, and the best part is that 100% of every donation directly funds rare cancer research! Encourage your friends, family and colleagues to help you reach your fundraising goal and ask them to visit this website for detailed instructions on how to make a donation on your behalf.
Fundraising Tips: Together we can ensure that rare cancer research gets the support it deserves. Use the tips below to help you reach — and surpass — your fundraising goal. Asking for support may be easier than you think!
Make a Donation
Together we can ensure that rare cancer research gets the support it deserves. Every dollar raised goes directly to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to fund lifesaving research on rare cancers. Since 2007, more than 100 clinical trials, research studies, and major research initiatives have been funded by Cycle for Survival.
Thank you for making a donation! Every dollar fights back!
Select this option and search for a team or a team member by name to make a tax-deductible donation on their behalf.
Select this option if you don't know anyone riding a bike but would like to fund rare cancer research on behalf of the Virginia Beach community.
You should know 100% of every dollar raised funds pioneering research initiatives led by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) within six months of the annual events.
MSK has long been the preeminent center for research devoted exclusively to cancer. MSK’s clinicians treat over 400 subtypes of the disease. The discoveries made here benefit patients around the world. MSK has produced more FDA-approved drugs for the treatment of cancer than any other single academic institution.

In May 2015, for the first-ever Cycle of Survival event hosted in Virginia Beach, our community was able to donate over $200,000 to rare cancer research. We hope to donate even more to Cycle for Survival this year, but we can't do it without your help!

Volunteer
If you can't physically ride a bike, or don't think you're up for the challenge, you can still contribute to the cause by offering to volunteer at the event itself! We are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers who can help make our event a big success!
As a volunteer, you can choose to help us with one of two things, depending on the time you wish to offer and your preference. You can be assigned to one of the following responsibilities:
-
Registration / Check-In from 12:00 to 4:30pm
-
Take Down / Clean Up from 4:45 to 6:00pm
Bring your friends, family and colleagues along too! Helping at our Cycle for Survival event can be a fun way to spend time together, while supporting a great cause!
